Policy: Terms of Service Agreements
As the concept of social networking media boosts in popularity, each individual site; has its own set of unique restrictions, called Terms of Service policies. These policies vary from site to site, operating on the principal of remaining order on the medium; these policies are agreed to at start up and they are also available to read, at any time, by the user on the bottom of each social medium. Abbreviated “TOS”, these usage policies are legally binding; a stricter limitation to ensure acceptable user behaviors online, company policies, and protect copyright issues; Companies such as Paypal and Ebay, maintain the trust of their users by deploying harsh legal restrictive policies due to the exchange of monetary funds; Yahoo, is designed to be able to modify their unique policies at any time without user base notice. For example, on each policy you cannot defame a user nor can you harass; this policy is only in effect if the users name and personal information is used for malice intent –- one must first prove beyond a shadow of doubt, that the user is talking to them directly though direct contact. Many people exist with the same name on this global medium –- easily this is done with proof a user is directing their messages at you personally, best done with username use for a clear determination.
Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have very strict Terms of Service Policies that can be perceived as very harsh. These strict policies can be accessed at will, by users at the provider’s homepage; these are also subjected to modifications. Internet Service Providers have the authority to work in conjunction with the local police department, to monitor a user’s connection; they will also remove service, at will, based on law enforcement involvement. Sadly, in a statistic greater than that of 90% most users never read Terms of service for their provider or site.
TOSing a user, happens when a violation comes about; serious violations result in a termination, while first or less serious violation result in only a warning; it is important to give a valid e-mail address to the site that is being used –- without a valid, or an unchecked e-mail, TOSing contacts may result in a no compliance from the user and lead to termination of the account. Each user has the right to appeal at any time, providing screen shots or other proof is a key formality – public content placed on the Internet will always stand as public content and hold up in court or in a legal TOSing case, thus screen shots of all violations are key. These policies only are in effect to protect the citizens of the Internet. If you believe you are being harassed contact your local law enforcement, as these sites will tell you; the matter can range from civil to criminal if death threats are involved or causes life threatening injury in cases where real-life stalking is involved or a predisposed illness is in disorder.
