Evan Williams, co-founder of Twitter, and American entrepreneur; carefully took the time to detail, in his November 10, 2009 Blogger post, Twitter’s newest feature –- project retweet. With remarkable detail, Mr. Williams starts off with an explanation disclaimer of his position:
“I’m making this post because I know the design of this feature will be somewhat controversial. People understandably have expectations of how the retweet function should work. And I want to show some of the thinking that’s gone into it. I’ve been a big proponent of this particular design internally at Twitter, because, while it won’t serve every use case, I think it offers something new and powerful.”
Controversial, indeed; project retweet has many Twitter retweeting loyalists’ publicly discussing harsh and often negative criticisms — claiming that this new Twitter feat destructs “social media” by removing the “social”. Aware of the reaction, Mr. Williams allocates a portion of this blog to each critical viewpoint; respecting the users with the upmost consideration –- with attempts to ease the differential transition for Twitter’s global network of diverse users.
