Review: ★★★★
The Free Dictionary by Farlex, is a wonderful web resource to add to your growing web collection; exceptionally handy for those with remarkable thirsts for knowledge, those who blog or engage in other structured web-based writing techniques, and/or users who just want to pass time looking up random information. The Free Dictionary is often referred to online as “the world’s most comprehensive dictionary” however, it serves no limitation to that of only a dictionary; including reference points such as the web-based thesaurus, medical dictionary, legal dictionary, financial dictionary, acronym finder, idiom look-up, web-based encyclopedia, Wikipedia Encyclopedia and more. Including, not excluding the languages of English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Polish, Turkish, Russian, and more; so to suit the needs of a globally interconnected Internet society.
The Free Dictionary homepage contains widgets similar to Google, remaining strictly personalized to each user’s basic needs; including factual points of references such as a three point search engine, weather, dictionary, current and events -- even including widgets that are more of a time passing brainy options; including the game of hangman, match words, forum, many more additional gadgets to be added at the users’ will. All widgets can be added, customized by location or color, moved to another position, and removed at any time; noting that the more widgets one has the slower the page will load — thus it is highly recommended to keep the homepage at a minimum of just what is the most appealing.
An optional free toolbar can be uploaded to a user’s web browser, reflecting The Free Dictionary search; also including word of the day and games such as hangman, match up, and spelling bee. Toolbar links are hand selected to include most favorite places on the web; also sending alerts to the desktop when important news and website announcements are ready to be address. The Free Dictionary toolbar is powered by popular search engine Google, different from the website that also includes Bing; also each toolbar contains an option for RSS reserve feeding.
